Tips for finding cheaper flights
Almost everyone likes to travel spending as little as possible, and the price of the plane ticket is one of the biggest costs when organizing a trip. Finding a cheap flight is the wish of any traveler. Of course, it's not easy. However, there are some tricks that it is worth knowing before buying your ticket. You might save up to 30%.
Some of these techniques are known, others not so much. Just keep in mind that to get a cheaper plane ticket today, the keyword is "flexibility" in your dates.
ALWAYS USE PRIVATE NAVIGATION
Algorithms have been developed to save your searches in your browser and understand that if you are doing the same search several times in a short time, it is very likely that you will buy a plane ticket soon.
From the second search, the company shows, only to you, a higher price. You are very likely to think: "Prices are going up, I have to buy now!" It is exactly what the company wants. You can also find this type of information: "last places available, only 2 places left, etc.". But in reality, you are the only user who sees that information.
The trick to avoid getting caught is very simple: to search for airline tickets, you must use the private browsing mode (incognito mode) to make your purchase, so that cookies are not loaded. It is also recommended to clear your search history in the browser settings.
THE BEST FLIGHT COMPARISON WEBSITES
We advise you against GoVoyage and Expedia because these flight comparison websites are owned or operated by airlines. Therefore, the offers they propose always charge a commission.
Ideally, look for as many flight comparison websites as possible to make sure you get the best deal. In addition, many websites don't show the prices of low-cost companies because they don't want to pay commissions.
The best flight comparison websites are those who have no affiliation with the airlines and who earn their money from advertising (not through reservations). There is no perfect search engine and even the best ones have their failures, but our favorites are Skyscanner, Momondo, and Kayak.
THE BEST TIME TO BUY
The general rule is: the sooner, the better. Book your flight as soon as you know the departure date. Skyscanner recently reviewed thousands of flight data to determine the best time to buy a cheap plane ticket. Here is the summary:
The best moment of the day
Although you are less likely to book a plane ticket at 5 a.m., at that time they are usually cheaper. On the contrary, you should avoid booking a flight between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The best time of the year
The best month of the year to fly to any destination is January, followed by February and September. When leaving on those dates, it is possible to find tickets 22% cheaper.
How far in advance?
According to Skyscanner, the best time to book a flight is 2 to 3 weeks in advance and for international travel is 5 to 6 months in advance.
LAST MINUTE FLIGHTS
If last-minute flights are generally expensive, it is still possible to get good deals, especially if an airline is looking to get rid of some unsold products a few hours before departure...
But it's no secret, you just have to be flexible about where you would like to go and when. There is usually a search function "Everywhere" and "all month" in the flight comparison websites.
PRICES CHANGE ACCORDING TO THE COUNTRY
Since airlines no longer have to follow specific pricing rules, ticket prices have changed dramatically. We have tested with someone who lived in Hong Kong, and we realized that a Paris-Hong Kong plane ticket cost € 720 from Paris and that this same plane ticket (same flight, same date) costs 630 € from Hong Kong.
MAKE A STOP-OVER
Sometimes, making a stop-over allows you to reduce the cost of the ticket. You can make a stop-over of a few hours and stay inside the airport, or take the opportunity to visit the city for a few days.
INVESTIGATE THE PRICE FOR ONE-WAY FLIGHT INSTEAD OF ROUND TRIP
Before deciding to book a flight, we advise you to look at the price you would get when buying tickets separately. It will not take you long and sometimes it is worth checking it.
FLY FROM OR TO A SECONDARY AIRPORT
Most major cities have a smaller secondary airport. Most low-cost flights arrive and depart from secondary airports because landing costs are cheaper. Look for the airlines that fly to these airports, you may make a saving, but you may have to spend more money and time on transportation to get to the city center.
